Whether it’s a 1-minute teaser, a 5-minute summary reel, or a 20-minute documentary film, the runtime is less important than creating a story arc that grips the audience and promotes an empathetic bond with the people on screen.
~ “You can make me laugh, you can make me cry, but please don’t bore me.”
KNOWING THE RIGHT STORY TO TELL
We regularly shoot as much as 80-hours of footage for a single project. Managing those assets and putting workflows together that facilitate finding the right story is what drives us.
~ “Anyone can tell a story. Some are capable of telling a good story. However relating the right story, and doing it well is what’s memorable.”
MICRO vs. LOW-BUDGET
We’ve learned some hard lessons producing quality work on tight schedules with limited crews and scarce resources. Those lessons have taught us to be more efficient and to respect the traditional craft of cinematography, sound engineer, director, editor, and producer, especially when we have to take on more than one role.
~ “Even when the goal is to produce for new-media or short-form video, never cut corners.”
COMMUNICATION
Sitting in on strategy sessions, writing up shot-lists and b-roll concepts, putting edits online, meeting with clients to review a rough-cut, and keeping edit notes organized all help, but we always make listening our first priority.
~ “It’s hard to listen when you have a lot to say.”

OUR PARTNERS ARE SAYING…
FlowTown Films communicates complex ideas with a clear and authentic voice. Their video created for a community project captured a large amount of information in a small amount of time; and gave me deeper understanding of the issues at stake, the solutions to pursue, and the possibilities to aspire to.
Meghan Sahli-Wells - Culver City, City Councilmember
FlowTown Films’ “The Road to NPR” brought the study findings to life. Our leadership better understood the opportunities and barriers when seeing and hearing the carefully selected vignettes interspersed with effective imagery. All subsequent work has been held to the visual standard set by that project.
Lori Kaplan - NPR Senior Director, Audience Insights
FlowTown has worked with us for 8 years now and they have an uncanny antenna for our work - often adding a great value by trying interesting stuff that is related to the objectives and that brings our respondents to life. Our words make CEO's think, a FlowTown film makes them act.
Mark Tall - BOO! a brand investigation company
Glenn and I have worked together for several years, most recently on several global projects. I can say without hesitation that he is truly dedicated to his craft and making sure that this exacting client’s vision is realized. When the going gets tough he hangs in there and does whatever it takes to make it happen, on time and in budget.
